When the waves call...we follow!
For some people it's the mountains or a lake, but for me it's the ocean. I'm not sure what about the ocean calls me. Maybe it's the sounds or smells. Whatever it is, it calls me to come put my toes in the sand and let all my worries wash out to sea with each crashing wave.
So, this year we decided that in order for mommy to stay sane we needed to put our toes in the sand and soak in some of the beach life. In other words, we moved our crazy from one zip code to another. There were still bottles, bed time routines, meltdowns (both from me and my children) and sleepless nights. But, there was also laughter, grand adventures and so many firsts! I hope that in my mental pictures I remember that my son's first trip to the beach included him eating more sand than imaginable and sleeping so peacefully on my chest while I laid in a beach chair. That my daughter had her Grammie, Papa and Aunt Leigh wrapped around her finger even while wearing flip flops with straps on the back. Plus, those little cheeks hanging out of her swimsuit...someday mommy won't think that's so cute but for now it was adorable.
This trip was rejuvenating. I got excited to come back home and pick-up my camera again, to focus on less screen time and more face time, to appreciate those who support us. It takes a village, even while on vacation!
A couple of bonus items...I got a tan, realized that no one on the beach cared that I still have a maternity body and feel totally awkward in a swimsuit, and Grammie and Papa took the boy for a few nights (i.e. I slept!). Plus, I later learned that my daughter has a VERY strong selfie game.
So, when the waves call...we'll follow them again next time!
